ScaryEire on BBC Dance Energy 1991

Posted in Videos on January 23, 2018 by djmek

My old crew ScaryEire on BBC Dance Energy back in the day with the lovely Lisa I’Anson. This was from a bunch of tracks we made at Radio Active Studios before we signed to Island Records. You can’t hear it on this short clip, but for the chorus we sampled ‘Mercy Street’ by Peter Gabriel.
Not sure why Mr.B isn’t shown here, he was probably outside havin’ a toke.

Breakbeats @ Belfast Arena 2017

Posted in Mixes, Videos on December 20, 2017 by djmek

I opened for the mighty Stone Roses at Belfast Arena in June.
Played a heap of funk breaks, some Hip Hop, a little funky rock and Electro. Here’s the last 12 minutes of the set.
I broke my wrist a week before the gig but I rocked on with some painkillers.

1991 Irish D.M.C. Championships

Posted in Videos on November 1, 2017 by djmek

Part of my winning set at the ’91 Irish DJ finals. The comps had been running worldwide since 1985 but we didn’t get our own heats till 1990. When we got to the venue there was no table for the decks & mixer. We found an old fridge freezer in a store room, dragged it onstage, flipped it sideways and set the gear up on it.
Cutmaster Swift was one of the judges and played a blinder exhibition set after the results. DJ Sketch came in 2nd place and my old mix buddy (and ScaryEire member) Dada Sloosh took 3rd.
